I finally located a daughter after 28 years(her mother said she WASN'T mine even though we were married at the time) had a DNA test done, she is indeed mine. She now says the only way we can have a relationship is if I pay 18 years back child support. I am a disabled combat vet, can she sue me for this support? She is now 30 years old.

The child is not owed support. The mother cannot sue for support unless it was ordered and never paid.

Who is it that wants the money?

Thanks for the quick response, I also have other adult children and grand kids who think I'm a pretty nice guy.

If its your child that wants the money, she is extorting you. If it is the mother that wants the money, she cannot prevent you from having a relationship with the child.

Either way, it does not appear you owe anyone anything.

Well, it's my child that made that statement to another of my daughters,my ex had two kids while we were together(married), one not mine, one mine. My wife and I were going to visit this month but I don't want to get served with something when I arrive.

The daughter cannot sue for anything. If the mother(ex) had previously filed a support order AND your state does not already have you outside the statue of limitations, then you might be on the hook for something... but your presence there is immaterial to it.

However, it sounds mostly like your daughter is money-grubbing and/or just talking trash.

No she cannot. There is no retroactive child support before the date an action is filed in which that support is sought. So, if there was never an action filed and the child is an adult, there is no support available for any period.

There is nothing legal they can do, the child seems like a selfish person, sorry.

The child would not even be owed anything to start with, it would be the mother, but that time is past.

I agree with all of these answers. Your daughter is not owed anything period. Never was never will be (at least not money from you). Of course she will have a claim to your estate unless you diliberately leave her out and leave her like a dollar. But as far as support that ship sailed long ago.
