    Libido and Paxil
I have been taking the antidepressanr Paxil for several years now.

Problem is that a side effect is that it all but destroys your libido.

I don't think that the doctors knew when he prescribed it for me about 6 years ago that it also is addictive. So all attempts to cut back or stop taking it for a few days, so "The time can be right", leaves me irritable and causes me to have disturbing dreams.
The doc mentioned taking Welbutrin (sic?) just for those "special times" to counteract Paxil's cold shower effect.
Anyone have any experience with this?

Hi, paxil is in fact not addictive but if stopped suddenly will cause withdrawal symptoms. That's why your meds should never be stop suddenly, they should be tapered off slowly. Certainly don't stop them for a few days just for a special moment! You can't just start and stop as you please without your body going into turmoil. No wonder your irratable. What you experience when you stop and start are the withdrawals. Which include anxiety, irritability, headaches, nausier, aches, fever etc . Your doctor should have told you that. Ask your doctor about changing meds to one that will leave your libido in tact. Goodluck
