    Heavy bright red bleeding
Hi I am 42 yrs old. Skipped a period last month but had 2 negative blood pregnancy tests. I recently started my period like 6 days ago. The first 2 days were normal, light pink, but it has turned to bright red bleeding with no clots, that hasn't eased up yet and I am on day 6 of my period, I usually only go about 6 days. This is very unusual for me and I am terrified! I called the doc but he said I need to watch it and if I go longer than 10 days I shld call him. I am still SO scared, and I am afraid of what's happening. Any suggestions?? HELP

It is not uncommon to have more issues with periods when you get into your 40's. Changes in the uterine lining, polyps, cysts, etc. tend to be factors. Could even be perimenopause that causes periods to become irregular and different from the norm.

If it continues, they will likely do a couple of ultrasounds to get a clearer picture of what may be the cause. Some blood work would also be likely. Most of the time it is something that can be sorted out relatively easily and is not anything serious.
