I have had a temperature for the past ten days. It has never been high (around 37 degrees); but it has been constant and not got better with medicine. I also feel chills, fatigue, muscular pain and headache. I have rested most of the time and looked after myself properly.
We all initially thought it was a simple flu or swine flu - very spread in the UK. The doctor says it should get better soon and thinks it's a virus possibly swine flu - but I have never been this sick before and think its something more serious. I will get some blood tests soon - but would like to know whether anybody is having a similar condition.

After a constant fever that many days in a row its time to see your doctor.

It could be a hard case of the flu/swine flu, or it could be something else.

I have seen the doctor and he is not sure whether it is a virus or something else. I have taken some blood tests this morning and results should get in by next week. I am just trying to thuink of other options. Somebody suggested thyroid problems because symptoms can be fatigue, muscle pain and depression. I feel kind of depressed and have pains as well as fatigue - but no loss/gain of weight or hair that seem also to be typical symptoms.

Hehe those are such common symptoms. It could be anything. Have you heard from the doctor back yet?

Its funny cause a thyroid issue can cause depression fatigue and muscle pain.

Depression alone can cause fatigue and muscle pain.

Muscle pain can cause fatigue

Fatigue can cause muscle pain.

Jennie - it's true my symptoms could be anything!

The blood testa are fine. I have stopped measurimg my temperature because it was driving me insane!! I am taking it easy and feeling better now - although not yet super fit. I think it might have been justa long virus - or because I'm kind of stressed and tired it took very long to recover.

That's possible. Its also possible (though I'm not suggesting that this is what it definitely is, it still could be an illness)
Your body could simply have decided to run warm. Being that its mild. I run cold all the time. I'm ALWAYS 96.4. so if I run a 99.9 (which would be a typical low grade fever, for me it would be a very high one)

And also I am suggesting this, because I wasn't always like that. It just started doing that one day lol. When I was little I had a perfectly normal temp of 98. (sorry I don't know Celsius numbers)

If it is the swine flu, don't worrie too much. From what my doctor told me when my daughter got swine flu, its basically just a harsh case of the flu. And it DOES take a long time to get out of your system.

Hey Jennie - this is really helpful and sweet!

Your hypothesis might be true - very intersting. Because my body always used to be cold (like yours now) and now might have gone to warm. However, there are some moments when I really feel warm and feverish and then after an hour or so I am fine. So seems as if my body goes ups and down. I feel I have much more energy now - but still don't feel 100%. I have started to feel ill more or less 16 days ago - so not a short time. I do feel better but not great.

I am thinking of starting to take some vitaminis or something so that I might get more energy. I'll also go again to the doctor next week just to see what he says. How do you know your kid had swine flue? They do not want to test me because they say it's quite an academic test and not sure. At least if I had it it would explain the very long recovery.

The other side of me - just says I need to react. I think its gotten quite phsicological - in the sense I do feel mentally low because the holidays are coming up and I don't want to miss out because I do need a break from work. So maybe I should just worry less and get on with things.

I'm assuming from your screen name you were born in 84 (like me) so being that you are 24, is there any possibility you are pregnant? This would account for the aches and pains and lethargy.

Also how are you taking you temp?

Oral and axillary (under your arm) temps can very. Are you taking your temprature very often through out the day? Its normal for your temprature to go up and down through the day hon :P so you might simply be over worried.

I wish I would have seen this earlier. Viral infections have to run their course. Two weeks is not unusual.

I would have recommended that every time you urinated, you drank 8 oz of water whether ir not you were thirsty or not. Chicken broth/Chicken soup and try to sweat.

I don't get sick often, but this technique seems to work.

Then there is the recovery process.

I'm starting to think that maybe it's something with my eyes... that might explain the dizzyness every now and then. For example today I am back at work and I have felt dizzy all morning - might be due to the screen. I am also really slow in typing and do many mistakes - which worries me and less concentrated. I guess a virus would not do this to you for so long. My body is OK I am not tired or drained - it's just my head. I don't have a headache I just feel dizzy.

I'll go back to the doctor tomorrow - although I am not sure how much he will help. He does not seem to come up with many options. Frustrating!

Jennie - Yes I'm 24! But not pregnant. ALSO, thanks for suggesting not to measure my temperature constantly. I have stopped now for a while - it was driving me crazy! I was using an ear thermometer which is supposed to be very accurate...

Mmm I've never trusted ear tempratures. Simply because the weather, and your activity can affect it. But it wouldn't affect it too much so its still accurate.

My suggestion at this point is to get off the computer. Take a nice hot bath. Lay down in bed, and GO TO SLEEP. Lol. You need rest, and you need to RELAX.
