    Custody of child's daughter
My daughter is 18-will be 19 in Sept. She lives with me and the father of child is not involved. She spends very little time with child and willl drink and drive with child. I think she will be agreeable to temporary custody. I WANT her to grow up and be able to take care of her child but I also love this child and want to protect her. What do I need to do?

    Hello b:

There ain't no temporary custody. Either she is FIT to parent or she is NOT. If she's NOT, then file for full custody.

Beyond the legal mumbo jumbo, though. I would NOT ever let my granddaughter in a car with a drinking driver, even if I had to disable the car... If you need to call Child Protective Services, or the POLICE, then DO IT.

Thanks for the reply. I think there is temporary custody in Alabama anyway. So I hear. But I agree with you about the car and the baby. No way!

I think your confusing terms here. Excon is right on the money. To gain custody is just that. But to provide on a temporary basis that would be guardianship.

Its what I think someone has told you is custody.
