    Get dog to gain wieght
I have a german shepherd dog he is a year old, and no matter what I do or feed him he will not gain any weight. He is very thin. Can you please tell me anything that will put weight on him.

I had a German Shepard female who kept climbing the chain link fence and terrorizing everyone by barking at them if they walked on our side of the street. I had to go out and "rescue" whoever she had treed as she would not let the poor person move as she had them pinned down. I put some weight on her (about 30 lbs) and she ended up weighing about 150 lbs. She could not shimmy over the 6' fence any more as she was too pudgy to do it. Peanut butter sandwiches. You may or may not want to do that but the peanut butter sandwiches sure worked for her. It took about 2 months.

Has the dog been wormed anytime recently? If not then you may want to consider investing in a good quality wormer. They also have high calorie supplements that you can add to your dogs food that may also help. If the trouble persists I would suggest making a visit to your vet to make sure there aren't any more serious problems.

Some dogs, especially Shepherds will stay skinny until they are around 2 years old. Then they will start to body out and gain weight.

You could try a different diet to help with the weight gain. Some working dog formula or even adding a little lamb to his evening meal.

Working dog formula can be hard to find sometimes, try going to a farming store. It has a much higher protein and fat content than regualar food as it is made for very active dogs.

The lamb is available at any butcher, just dice it up and add it to his regular food.
