I'm going to post a poem that I wrote about Loss. I'm not looking for critism, its more for me than anything else (explantion to follow) but I would love it if the good people of AMHD would post their fave poems, both ones that you have written yourselves or faves written by others. :)
Earlier this summer a young-man that grew up in the same street as me and who's family was close with mine, committed suicide and it just... affected me greatly. And I ended up writing this after his funeral. In the past I've just had a real problem to grasp that the person is gone until the funeral. (and I know I'm not alone in that) and to see a young girl of just 21 carry her little brothers casket was more heart breaking then I can even put into words. I've always found that writing poetry helps when times are though, but also to read what others have written. Personally I think that Poetry is a wonderful medium in writing!
Also this poem isn't my thoughts surrounding his death, but more me trying to capture the feeling of loss... if you catch my drift. Anyway here's the poem:
Every second that passes by
Is reflected in each tick of the clock.
It's a sad reminder
And I'm counting the minutes, the hours and the days
Since I last heard your voice.
I keep waiting for you to call.
Or to pick up the phone when I dial your number.
Is this really it?
I'm stuck in a hole,
As deep and wide as the ocean.
Frustration fills me up;
I can't dig it any deeper, and I can't claw my way out.
Is this really it?
I would have sold my soul
Piece by piece
For one more moment with you.
I would run to the end of the world and back
For just another chance to hear you speak my name.
But you're out of reach
And my tiny arms have no hopes of stretching
Or bending
The way they must
To reach you.
This is really it.
Your time has run out
As mine still lingers on.
