Jewish the chosen people of God?
I hope that I am posting this in the correct section. My friends and I were discussing Christianity this evening and I wanted them to answer a question, but no one was able to give a direct answer. I know that in the Bible it says that the Jewish are the chosen people. I would like to know if that means people that practice Judaism (that would include people that have converted to Judaism), Jewish people that still practice Judaism, people of Jewish descent, or is if it is Jewish descendants that have converted to Christianity?

But, aren't the Israeli's children of Abraham, whom are of Jewish descent?

There has been a discussion on this ... The thread Man and Adam will offer some answers for you.

It will tell of Abraham and Sarah his wife who's son was Isaac, father of Jacob and Esau

But also son Ishmael of Abraham and Sarah's handmaid Hagar and the progenitor of the Arabian peoples.

Plus there was Keturah who was wife of Abraham after Sarah's death, she bare Zimran, Jokshan, Medan, Midian, Ishbak, and Shuah

Indeed the Old Testament Israelites were the chosen people of God, the people chosen to take the message to all the world, but some how the effort of just taking Cannan, a tiny blot on the surface of the Earth, was more than enough for them and they settled into their "Promised Land", became fully religious and kept the message to themselves.

They got carried away with this chosen people thing until they had to be rebuked and ultimately destroyed as a nation and scattered. So much for the chosen but not forgotten people. God put stage 2 of his plan into play and we Christians became spiritual Israel because we believe in the one he sent, and took the message into all the world, or at least, most of it.

So hopefully I have answered your question, the chosen people doesn't really refer to today's Jews who no longer even follow the temple rituals established by Moses. This isn't to say that God has forgotten the Jews, I don't think he has, but he did provide a better sacrifice. This is, of course, a Christian perspective
