    Horrible smell from Shower drain
We moved into this house 5 weeks ago and have tried everything to combat this problem.

Our upstairs bathroom shower stinks from high heaven after we've had a shower ie:after its had hot water running down the drain. The sink and bath drains in the same bathroom don't stink and neither does the shower downstairs.

We've tried pouring bleach and also tried Drano but nothing helps. It smells like something has crawled in there and died - its really bad.

Any suggestions on what may be causing the problem and what can be done to overcome it?

    Many thanks
    Col

    Hi Col,

Most bad smells from tubs, lavatories and showers come from rotting hair matted in with grease from the soap. Try this, remove the two screws from the strainer and shinea light down the drain. Put a hook in a clothes hanger and fish out any hair that may be down in the trap. Tonight before bedtime pour 1/2 gallon of bleach and let it set overnight. In the morning flush the drain out with a few large pans of boiling water. This is important, the bleach will work on the hair and the boiling water will melt the grease and flush the mess away. Good luck. Tom
