Motion Detector For Existing Oudoor Light
I have an NEW light outside above my garage door. I would like to add a motion detector, perhaps adjacent to this light.

My old light was easy because the detector I bought had two parts, one the detector itself which I attached adjacent to the light, and a part which screwed in to the standard socket, then the bulb screwed into that part.

The problem is the new light has no standard socket. Instead, it uses one of those push-in compact fluorescent bulbs. So I can't use my old motion detector.

I need another type, I guess, which interrupts the power like a switch on the hot wire, and which mounts adjacent to, or near, the outside light.

Can you tell me if such a motion detector exists, and if so, how I would set it up? Or, is there another way to accomplish what I'm trying to do? Thank you.

There are stand alone sensors made, see if any of theses will work for you.

Both Home Depot and Lowe's carry motion sensor like the one shown. For some reason they are called replacement motion sensors but can be mounted to a the cover of a switch box and wired to control the lights. Gives you the flexibility of putting the sensor anywhere you want.

If light is switch controlled, Home Depot sells a unit which can be mounted almost anywhere.

Kit contains a switch and wireless motion sensor.

It is wireless and sends signal to switch to turn on light
