This will be short and sweet, just a quick thought that occurred to me whilst driving yesterday...

Isn't it interesting how we live in the land of the free, yet almost all of our major employers have, or are threatening to move to communist China due to our harsh regulations, and China's lack thereof?

Now which one's the communist country again?

Well, I guess they can only have one child, and their internet is controlled...

But then again, our government tells us what kind of light bulbs we can buy.

BTW: Speaking of those CFL light bulbs. I'm not a big fan of them..

I did my whole house in them about 6 months ago. I used the cheaper builbs, the ones that cost about $1.75 per light. Half of them have already burned out...

Hummm... Expensive, and don't seem to last near as long as the older incadecents.

It's my understanding you won't be able to buy incadecents after 2012. Guess I should start stocking up... Because these CFL's may only burn 13 watts. But when they only burn a fraction of the time a regular light bulb does, I kind of eat up my savings when they cost $7 for 4 lights.

Oh, and the other day, I went to unscrew one and it busted in my hand... with my daughter right beside me... nice, now we have mercury vapor all over the place...

Call hazmat ;your house needs decontamination . The CFL's are already dinosaur technology. LED is the way to go.

I'm not sure that is an accurate statement . Can you provide details ? Yes some companies are making the move but I doubt it is true that almost all our major employers are making the move.

It is my view that China will become increasingly more a consumer economy. Perhaps the US companies that are making the move are moving to where their future market is ;just like Japanese auto companies did despite the regulatory burden here.

No, I can't provide details. Like I said, these are just thoughts that come across my head during the day. The sources vary from news coverage, internet, "Joe" down the street, etc...

How much does an LED light cost? I've never seen those around anywhere..

I'm sure in this 60 year old house, hazmat would have a field day.

Actually I jumped the gun a little . LED's being new technology are fairly expensive but not on a per hour basis. They tend to last a long time (10-15 years )

The problem with them is they have not yet mastered the ability to provide the type of luminosity that a standard incandescent bulb gets (in my opinion the CFL's don't get it done either ) . But in places where you may have track lights ,LED is the way to go ;and the technology is advancing rapidly .

My hubby and I debate the greenhouse effect, he says it doesn't exist the same way that it is portrayed. I call him a communist pig. Thus my posting that link in all its irony. Funny that you would combine the two in a thought, I am laughing my butt off.

Well, I don't think Obama will convert everyone over to commies, at least not without one hell of a fight.

And, I really don't think Obama is communist. The type of guy you con't want to give a credit card? Yes. But a communist? No.

This whole CFL thing has really made me want to stock up on incadecents. Because after 2012 when those are no longer available, then when one of these cheaply made CFL's burn out, I might not have the $7 on hand to buy more.

Whereas it was always easy to scrape up 88 cents to get a box of regular lights.

I still have my old light bulbs in a box in the storage room. The gradually come out as these new CFL's with there "10,000 hour burn life" burn out after only 500 hours of use.

OR

I could just outfit my entire house in regular flourecents. They also contain mercury vapors, but a flourecent tube is cheaper than a CFL, and you get more hours of operation, along with the energy savings.

Hahaha at credit card. I agree about the light bulb thing. Why is it suddenly okay to dictate to us things like this, and what kind of cigarettes we can smoke, and if our health care will or will not cover abortion. (All from other threads that get debated.) I've said it before and I will say it again, I am NOT a fan of Obama. Nor am I a fan of an Obama government. Any government that dictates to me my basic rights by law steps over the line. Stop violating my rights and limit the damn producers, helllooooo Pharmaceutical Companies.

All they really do is cause you to spend more for heating and lighting your home ,create a potential hazmat nightmare (I bet no town has considered proper disposal of mercury laced light bulbs either . They are going into landfills throughout the country )... and do nada to help the environment... oh yeah... and make you go blind .

True . Proponents and opponents crossed party lines . President Bush did sign the law . The Aussies banned incandescent bulbs starting next year I believe so we will have a 2 years case study before our law goes into effect.

I agree Andrew we are no longer as free as we believe.

I don't like the CFL bulbs either and the society for migraines has even said they are bad for any one with migraines.
There are getting to be too many laws.
Many don't get passed right away but as soon as they become a bill they often do end up becoming law eventually. Like the no smoking laws. Now many privately owned bars have to comply to a law they don't want or need. You don't like the smoke don't patronize their bar that simple. Now many apartment buildings you aren't allowed to smoke in your own place.
They are trying to pass laws that you aren't allowed to get doggie bags from restaurants, not allowed to eat at fast food places if you are over weight, have to buy a permit to grill out in your own back yard, etc, etc,.

God forbid someone deny me a big mac right now... I'm just saying.

What is the difference between that and the proposal dictating the SPACING of children for mothers. Would that not mean ENFORCED abortions?

What would the required "end of life" counseling lead to? Euthanasia?

By the way, the only led lights I have seen advertised were for recessed fixtures, but that seems like the way to go. They will get better and the price will come down, or that seems like the typical progress for any new technology.

That's what I'm saying.. I understand there are still many differences between American and communist China. But there are also many similarities.

Perhaps it's time for a one child per couple rule here. Think of the welfare savings!

I wouldn't go as drastic as the one child thing.
China's young men are starting to regret it cause they can't all find gf's.
But I wonder what would happen if they cut pregnant teens off welfare?

And regarding China's men? Who needs girlfriends anymore anyway? There are so many alternatives. I know if I ever get out of this relationship I'm in alive I will NEVER have one again!
