Just had kitchen remodeled with sink removed and put back in place. Sink and all plumbing is 25 years old.. Replaced supply hose but have leak from shutoff valve. Is it worth replacing the internals of the valve or is it best to just replace the entire valve?

I'd consider replacing the evalve with a modern ball valve.

You can try pulling the stem, cleaning up the valve and just take it to the hardware store to look for replacement parts. The washer and the packing. Be prepared that the screw holding the washer can break off.

In a house that's 50 years old. Most, not all are replaced. Main valves are not. 1/2 bath in cellar is not. The main bathroom has double shutoffs. Ball valves downstairs and 1/4 turns up.
One outside spiket is still 50 yrs old.

Not sure what to expect inside the housing of the valve. Do you know of any online sites with a simple schmatic of this type valve? I like as much info as I can get before I dive headfirst into unknown territory.

It's kind of liie "dealers choice". Repair or replace? Tell me where it's leaking from?(see image) If it's simply snugging up a nut then keep what you have but if you're going to replace leave the large nut and ferule on the stub-out and just install the valve body. Good luck, Tom

It's tight under the sink but it appears to be leaking from front of packing nut.

Also, be sure you have opened that valve handle all of the way until it stops snugly
