Fan on off switch not working
    Hello,

I have a ceiling fan with down light kit installed in one of the rooms.

One slider switch (with on/off capability) on the wall controls the light. Turn on the switch and the light come on; slide the dimmer up and down and the light brightens and dims.

Another slider switch (with on/off capability) on the wall is for fan. Slide the knob up and down and the fan goes from complete stop to full speed.
The on/off switch however on this slider does not seem to turn the fan on/off. Its practically always "ON" controlled by the slide knob.

It's a brand new house and the switches came installed. I am not sure how the connection looks inside the switches.

I hung the fan though and connected white from ceiling to white from fan, black from ceiling to black from fan, red from ceiling to blue from fan and copper from ceiling to both greens from fan. There is no other wire coming from the ceiling.

Can anyone please help me fix the on/off capability of the fan from the slider switch ?

    Thx.

    Joe L.

Suggest replacing the "fan control". Dimmers used for light and dimmers used for fans are different. You can attempt to gather a model number off the fan speed control, verify that it is a fan speed control and replace it. Meanwhile here are some: Dimmer Switches and Fan Controls including Light Dimmers and Ceiling Fan Controls

The slider for the fan, is it truly a slide or as you move it down are there 3 steps or positions?

When I move the knob it has three steps (positions). So, not truly a slider I guess...

Truly a fan speed switch though. That's how they work but fully down isn't shutting your fan off, right? Replace that switch.

Slider completely down turns the fan off.

There is a small on/off button as well below the slider (on the same switch) and that on/off button does not seem to have any effect on the fan. The fan turns on (using the slider) even if the on/off button is at off.

Let me see if I find the switch model online and can send you the link...

I'm a bit confused. So the issue is, the fan does not shut off, or the fan does not change speeds?
