I installed a new fluidmaster W43AK complete kit. Installation went fine and filling/flushing seemed to go well. Since installation about every 24 hours when I flush the toilet no water fills up. I can flush the toilet 20 times in a 20 minute period and it appears everything is working fine. It just seems overnight something is going on. I moved the float cup just in case but it appeared to move down with no problem. I then shut the water off at the supply line, drained the toilet out of the upper tank, and removed the supply line from the toilet. When I turned the water on at the supply valve no water came out of the supply line. I then removed the supply line from the valve and reattached and the water flowed fine.

I also checked the supply line and they appear to be fine.

I was thinking the cone washer might have been getting turned somehow and blocking flow of water or something.

I had an old ball/cock system which was 8 years old and had no problem with the water filling the tank, now after installation of fluidmaster I have problems... Go figure! :-) It appears I drilled down my diagnosis to the stop valve but of course I could be completely off.

What is causing the stop valve to engage and stop flow of water?

Hello Ckhal,

Do the following close the angle valve under the tank, remove the cap, remove the seal hold your hand on top of the fill valve, open the angle valve slowly and see how is the water flow if it looks OK, reassemble the cap, and see if your problem is fixed, see the images below, Thanks.

To me that says you have a blockage in the stop valve. Either remove the bonnet nut and stem and clear or replace the valve. Personally I just replace it. They are cheap. I think you have a piece of solder from years ago blocking the valve.

I disagree with John on the ballcock seal and agree with Harold about the angle stop. This could be a broken washer, a small pebble or a small chunk of solder but something's blocking the seat.
Shut the water off at the house shut off and remove the stem and washer assembly, (see image) check the washer. If the washer's OK then unscrew the larger compression nut and pull the stop off and check it to be sure nothings caught in side. Now place a pan over the open line and have someone turn the water back on for a 10 count to flush out the supply. Reassemble and test. Better now? Good luck, tom

Tom if you explain why would the water flow stop during the night, I am not saying that you and Harold are wrong but I just want to know, I gave mine as one of the possibility, Thanks.

Hi all...

I have what could be yet another spin on this one... ;) It's a stretch but interesting to note...

I'm wondering if ckahl has installed a new FLOODSAFE toilet riser.. see image. These new risers stop water flow when flow rate exceeds normal. I have found them to be a nuisance as they tend to start and stop much like ckahl mentioned. I stopped using them after 3 callbacks for this exact reason.

It is interesting to note that when water flow is stopped the only thing that usually resets them is to disconnect from the supply exactly as noted by ckahl.

Ckahl, did you install floodsafe toilet riser? If so, get rid of it and replace with a regular SS braided toilet supply... should not have the issue again!

If no floodsafe riser then tell us a little more about the CONE WASHER you mentioned... O.K.? Which one... one in toilet riser, one in fill valve, etc..?

I disagreed with your solution because you focused on the ballcock when the OP has said he gets njo water out of the supply and Harold thought the same thing. Mark cane up with a solution if the OP replaced the supply at the same time as the ballcock. And after checking Marks Watts site I see there's ,indeed, a cone washer, (see image) on the connection to the ballcock. We used to carry on our repair trucks 3' lengths of chrome 14" supply lines and a box of cone washers. We could then form our own supplies to measure. I think Nark nailed it but we'll wait on confirmation from the OP. Regards, tom
