Under the bowl would be down at the floor or did you mean under the tank? You can leave it off indefinitely but know you will only get one more flush until you turn the water back on. Depending on the location of the leak shutting off the water may not stop the problem
You can leave the water off indefinitely if you wish.
Let's just see where that water's coming from. Turn the water back on and Take a wad of Toilet paper and rub the back of the tank. Any moisture there? No? Feel under the tank. Not there either? Now swipe that wad down the middle of the back of the bowl. No moisture so far? Can you rock or twist the bowl? Anything loose?
OK! We've checked the drainage and any overspray from the ballcock. Now check the supply feeding the tank from the shut off. See any water there?
What bothers me is that you had to shut the water off. Why? You must have had a reason. Want to share? Cheers, Tom
No fixing cracks in a tank but you may be able to buy a replacement tank. Do you know the brand and model? Some outfit sell used tanks and other parts. http://www.toiletology.com/parts-difficult.shtml
