You know me, I panic at a tiny scratch on my dogs so forgive me if this sounds silly.

I was sitting on the couch and I noticed one of my dogs scratching, I looked over and he had a big patch of blood just in front of his ear.

I feel awful for not noticing earlier (he is a bit fluffy at the moment) but there is a lump there and he has scratched it to the point of bleeding.
It feels hard and it won't stop oozing blood.

I don't know what to do, normally I would ask my mum but its nearly 3 in the morning!

Should I wash it, leave it or I have some rash cream here for when he gets clipper rash, should I use that?

I don't know what has caused it :confused:

I fully intend to take him to the vet but obviously can't book an appointment right now :)

Did you notice anything on your dogs head prior to this? It could be a cyst or something they managed to nick while scratching.

Your best bet at this hour is to clean it up to try and see what it is, and just try to stop it from bleeding with a cloth or something similar, then off to the vet in the morning.

I can dish out the advice easily but when it comes to my own dogs I panic :o

Well I brush his ears out about once every 2-3 days and I haven't noticed anything before, it's right on the front corner of his ear (wish I could take a picture) so I may have just missed it.

I will go give it a wash and see how it looks after that.

I washed it out.

It almost looks like a big blood blister, I though it was just red because of the blood around it but the actual lump is bright red.

At the bottom there is a small amount of darker dried blood where it looks like it has been weeping slowly.

I haven't come across this before :confused:

Weird. Can you get a picture of it by chance? Is it done bleeding at least?

I have been looking for my camera for the past week, it seems to have vanished.

I just tried to Google but can't find anything that looks like it.

Just found my camera, in the kitchen cupboard of all places!

He is a complete nutter so I am hoping he has just hit his head or scratched too hard or something and it is not anything serious...

Yeah sorry, bad photo, thanks for your help. I will find out for sure what it is tomorrow, a cyst sounds pretty right though unfortunately.

Just an update...

I haven't taken him to the vet yet. I called my mum and she told me to just do salt washes on it for the next day and if it doesn't improve then take him to the vets.

It has stopped bleeding but it still looks pretty nasty so I think he will be going tomorrow or the next day (depending when I can get an appointment)
