Hi,

I was given an old Nutone 4 Chime that has stopped working - just a low hum and slight movement of the coils.

There is NO model number on the chime, only the Nutone name.

Does anyone have any information on this chime? Looking for a wiring diagram and or parts list.

This model has a motor that rotates a pin that makes the contacts that go to the coil chimes.

I have cleaned the coils and contacts and have gotten a little movement from the coils.

What does it say in top corner(Model#?).
I would see what the voltage on motor is. Maybe 120 volts? Then the coils would likely be 120 volts as well, looks like it plays 8 0r 9 notes or there is a pause, can't see under the arm. I see 4 terminals, 2 are likely power and 2 are likely doorbell button, maybe a pull switch on side for on/off.

The label you ask about only says "Nutone - Cin. Ohio", NO model number. This is a 16 volt chime, at least that's what I measured from the transformer in the house it came out of.

I suppose the 16 volts could possibly be a 24 Volt transformer with a problem but I doubt it.

As seen in the picture, there is a small lamp in the front of the chime housing controlled by a switch on the side.

I realize that two of the terminals are for the 16 V xformer and would expect the others to be the Front and Rear bell pushbutton.

I did hook up the 16V and tried it and got the light to light and the coils to move slightly

I was thinking 2 for power 2 for button, no rear door? Do each one of those solenoids strike a brass tube(different lengths) as shown?

Yes, there are 4 brass tubes with this chime. One is shown in my picture.

Yes, I did. After reading the links you sent me I took the solenoids out of the coils and
Buffed them clean.

I also cleaned the inside of the coils when the solenoids were out.

I needed to clean all the contacts etc.

I'll have to build a small housing to hold the "Works" as the previous owner broke the
Case and threw it away.

By the way, I sent the pictures to Nutone ant they tried to help but couldn't identify the unit. They did send me an address of a repair shop near me.

I just got it going yesterday.

Hi,

Yes it does. I did learn NOT to tighten the small set screw too tight that holds the contact
Pointer on the motor arm that turns for the chimes.

When I did tighten the small flat screw driver slot too much, one side broke off!

Luckily, I found a 6/32 hex in "Ace" hardware yesterday that worked. I first thought
I would have to re-tap the small pointer to get one to fit and I didn't like that idea.

By the way, one other problem I had was it didn't want to play all 8 notes, it would

Skip two of them at times. However, if I shorted the contacts with a jumper wire

All notes played fine, thus I knew it wasn't the coils or solenoids.

I removed the pointer contact arm (center of front picture) and cleaned it again.

I noticed that the contact part has a small bump on it that contacts the circular stationary

Contacts as it is rotated.

This "Bump" had a worn spot on it that I think didn't make a good contact.

I cleaned the bump, again and dropped a small amount of solder on the bump and now it

Plays fine.

This all happened yesterday!
