How many debt collectors can collect for same debt?
Hi,
I received a letter back in May from debt collector. I responded certified mail requesting proof that I personally guaranteed the debt. (business debt) and any further contact should be written. Received letter from original creditor stating to worked with collections agency, followed by another letter from debt collector started call to make payment arrangement but nothing to show I showing I personally guarantee the debt. Few weeks passed and the phone calls started. I sent a 2nd letter certified requesting the information, this letter comes back undeliverable.(same exact address as first) The calls continue, even calling a family member looking for me. I spoke with them and stated that I do not believe the debt was mine, and was still looking for a response to my written request. The person on the phone was trying to get me to use a personal credit card to make a payment to them. She seemed to get angry and stated that she would go back to the original creditor and tell them I was unwilling to work and to seek a judgement. The calls continue they even made a call to an ex-employee who was only an authorize signer of the account. Now a new letter comes from a different agency looking for payment and giving me 30 days to dispute the charges. The original dept collector still calls.
(and I researched and their licence to collect in Mass expired 9/08)
Can 2 different debt collectors try to collect the debt?
Should they be calling me when I have asked for written notification only?
What action can the former employee take against them calling when she was only an authorize signer?
I'm in Mass
