I frequently observe popular singers performing in front of an audience with some kind of equipment stuck in their ear. Could you please explain to me the function of that piece of equipment.

There are several different types of earpieces musicians/singers use. Many singers use one that drowns out the music playing around them so they sing true. You may see drummers using them, too, which is to protect their hearing (which other band members use as well). Some use an earpiece that has a "feed" of the music the other band members are playing which comes through an an acceptable decibel level. Then, there are the ones that are linked to backstage staff in case of problems.Quote:
