Why is my puppy eating its own poop

It can mean they are lacking some vitamins and/or minerals.
I usually feed my dog Alpo but when she seems like she may be lacking nutrients I get her a bag of Beneful or you could buy a tube of dog vitamin supplement.

Try a different type of dog food and see if that works.

It an also depends on the breed.
Shih Tzus and Yorkies are notorious for eating their own poop.

Apparently putting a small amount of pineapple juice in their food changed the way their poop smells and stops them but not all dogs like pineapple in their food!

My boston terrier was eating her poop and my other 3 dog's poop also. My vet suggested putting tobasco sauce on the piles. I considered it, but decided to try a change in food instead. That worked.
