Scared for my mom's life !
Well this is the story :
My mom is a 44 year old who smokes. I think she smokes more that 10 ciggerates a day. I am worried about her. My mom is always gets mad when she doesn't smoke. I am worried about her health. I mean like she can get cancer from it. I want to tell her to stop because I am scared for her but I don't want her to get mad at me. I don't know what to do. I just want my mom to be health and I don't wannahave to worry about her dying or anything. What should I do?

Your mom knows all the dangers, it is listed on every pack and on TV all the time.

You can tell her you think she should stop, but unless she wants to, she will not.

I agree. Your mother is an adult. She knows what she is doing to her body, and its her decision to quit or not. I know you are worried hon, but I don't really see much you can do

We you see your mom smoking tell that one of your friends mom affected cancer due to smoking. Or you can take her to a phycatrist don't do anything to upset her minds. Always make a clam apporch. I think she will be smoking due to some kind of tension. So to get ride of that she smokes. When she is in a good mood ask her problem. When ever she do anything well apreciate her for what she done. Try make more aware of problems of smoking. Try to do all this things you wiill be seeing the result soon. Wish you good luck

    ??
How is she going to GET mom to see a psych?

Not sure if you are saying for her to get rid of things that stress mom or
If you are saying that she should get rid of moms smokes.
Either way it isn't that simplistic.

MOM WANTS to smoke mom is going to smoke.
She has to want to quit to see results.

She can tell mom her concerns but then it is up to mom to take it into consideration and do something about it

I'm just going to say, I know exactly how you feel.
My mother is fourty-eight, and smokes over four packs a day.

I worry about her all the time, and I "constantly nag [her] all the time" about it. (her words)
According to her, she "want[s] to quit, but just can't".
I think that's bull crap, and every time I try to convince her, she pulls some lame excuse and will get mad if I persist.

I do not recommend trying to force quitting upon her. However, I do recommend telling her you do not approve of it. At the very least, it shows her you care about her.

    Good Luck!

It isn't bull crap. Cigarettes are one of the hardest addictions to quit because they put additives in cigarettes that MAKE you get addicted.
Natural tobacco itself is not addictive.

Petra, Native (something or other), Seneca, Adobe, and Santa Fe are suppose to be natural tobacco not sure how true or how much 'safer' they are but maybe worth smoking INSTEAD IF they are not going to quit. Then again they may not like the flavor because a flavor preference of a cigarette addiction usually accompanies the addiction itself.

No, it's not bull. I quit and it was VERY hard . I was smoking over two packs a day. It's been 6 years since I have had a cigarette. So yes, it is hard, but you CAN quit. Just tell your mother you'd like to help her with it, because you love her so much and it concerns you. If she's not ready though,. Good luck to you.

You have all the right to be worried about her. It really shows that you care a lot about her, but like everyone said, she has to want to quit in order to quit. You could talk to her about it. Just a talk, you're not pushing anything, you're just telling her how you feel about it.

    @N0help:
I was saying it is bull crap that she "can't" stop.
For your information, she has quit before, but got back a year later for stupid reasons, so saying she can't is a lie.

You're saying it's not bull, so she can't quit, then saying she can quit, so it is bull... I'm confused...

I know you were saying that it is bull crap that she can't stop.

    For your information
Ask the majority of people that quit an addiction, even cigarettes, and they will tell you that every time they pick the addiction back up it is harder to quit again than it was the previous time they quit.

Many addicts start again simply because they think they can handle it this next time so they pick up the addiction again only to find out they can't quit

Or they will think they are only going to have one more cigarette a year later and can't stop
Addiction starts with the first cigarette or the first drink or the first whatever

What me and jmjoseph are saying is that she CAN quit if she has a LOT of determination and desire to quit, otherwise it is next to impossible.
I know a lot of smokers that HAVE lung cancer who can not and will not quit.
Its called addiction for a reason.

I have "quit" a total of 3 times, about to start on the 4th time tomorrow.

    It is NOT easy.

10 a day is not much, give her a break, at least she is trying.
