    I cannot break through about six inches down it is packed solid and will not drain

    This is white chalky build up

    Hmmmm...

    Can you tell us a little more here? Is this an old shower that has gone unused for a time? New shower just installed and drain is clogged? What are you using to try to break through the blockage? Are the pipes exposed in the basement below and if so what material are the pipes/fittings made of (cast iron, galvanized, PVC or ABS plastic)?

    Answer these questions and we'll see what we can come up with...

    Last time I saw anything like this my grand kids were doing a plaster project and dumped the excess down the drain. White chalky stuff isn't usually found in a drain and would not be just mineral deposits.

    When was the last time this shower was used? Are there children in the house? Take a sharp wood chisel and start to creak the substance out. Keep as much of it out of the drai as you can. After you remove the blockage test the drain. Good luck, Tom
