Right click on My Computer and click properties
    -click on the hardware tab
    -click on device mgr
-click + sign next to cd rom drives
-your drive should be listed there

If there is a RW, Writer, or something similar (W means writer)

If not sure, post here what you have there after clicking on the + sign

Also post your computer model if you have it avail

Can not tell by info provided above, but for the computer model given Lenovo 3000 Y300, this spec page says it is:

    CD-RW/DVD-ROM Combo Drive (24X/24X/24X/8X Max)

    Techtree.com India > Reviews > Mobile Computing > Notebooks > Lenovo 3000 Y300

So according to the information in link above, your drive can write to CD's but not DVD (Can play DVD's but not burn DVD's, just CD's)

Hmm. It is written on my comp that its DVD- rewritable. So does that mean that it ca burn DVDs?

Yes, if that would be written on the drive - you would be able to play and burn dvd's

This is if it says rewriteable after DVD

But as mentioned, info provided for that model states - CD-RW/DVD-ROM which only means it is rewriteable CD and not DVD

Can only go by what you state and what was written for that particular model you provided

    Can always try
