OK I trying to get 220v in my garage from my unused dryer outlet it has 4 wires feeding into it 1 bare 1 neutral 2 hot I was going to buy some 10/3 and splice it and run it the 50 ft I need to get to garage for a air compressor now 2 things it only reads 230v at box is that sufficient to travel 50ft without voltage loss? 2nd how do I hook you these 4 wires to my 10/3 3 wires cable? Please help I don't want to kill myself lol but seriously

Firstly, everything is determined by the load measured in Amps called for by the air compressor.

#10 AWG wire is suitable for loads of up to 30 Amps. (Check your local code). Travelling a distance of 50' (100' circuit) I don't think you would suffer much voltage drop. Maybe 2% or so.

If your compressor runs on 230 VAC then you likely don't require a neutral. (Confirm this by inspecting the device). Simply junction the two hot wires and continue the ground to bond the equipment. The neutral can be capped and left.

Also note, if you are sending current on a white wire make sure to identify it so. Wrap a good portion of the white insulation with black or red electrical tape. This way the wire will not be mistakenly hooked up as a neutral in future.
