About a year ago my microwave (I'll call it GE #1 in this thread) just stopped. Wouldn't turn on. No cooking, no keypad, no lamp; nothing. Nothing happened when I plugged it into the wall. And so that micro sat dysfunctional over my stove-top for several months, until I bought a new one.

And wouldn't you know... two weeks after I bought and got the new one set up (I'll call it GE #2 in this thread) , it broke. And so that sat for many months, until now.

So, I decided to pull GE #1 out of storage to really see what its problem was. Turns out, it was just a blown fuse. I bought replacement fuses, correct voltage and amperage (250V 15 amp), stuck one in, and plugged themicrowave in. The keypad turned on and I reset the clock. So far so good!

But then I was pushin' it: I pressed "COOK TIME," set my time limit, and pressed START. Normal sounds start, fans begin to turn, and one second after I press START, the micro turns off. Everything. Keypad is off; nothing. THe fuse is hot, and it is blown.

By the way, the reason I even mention GE #2 here is because I wanted to have a backup story for anyone who says that I should buy a new microwave (especially because they don't cost too much). Personally, I don't feel good about buying another dud. I'd rather fix my old, reliable one, the one with the best record: GE #1. That way, I'll only have one junker sitting around. And as for why we didn't return GE #2, I really don't know why. Kind of sad.

So, after contemplation, I've decided on trying to fix GE #1 rather than GE #2. So, why is the fuse in GE #1 being blown? Is there a broken capacitor? Is the door switch faulty?Some component must be blowing the fuse.

There is a 1 year warranty with #2 so get it fixed by someone that knows and for free.

Magnatron, Capacitor, HV diodes in that order. Magnitron more likely if it slowly started no to heat as well.
