I'm so so very sad right now, I just adopted a puppy and got her on Friday, she seemed okay the first day or 2 then I noticed she had a runny nose, and what soundsl ike hacking of a hair ball, my boyfriend took her to the vets today and said it could be a cold or distemper disease so he gave us an antibiotic to give her and set an appt up for next Monday to see how she is, she's very playful eatting well pooping and peeing fine, I'm so scared she could die if it is distemper, has anyone had to deal with this, I don't know if she's going to be OK or not I:confused:

I'm not very familiar with distemper disease in fact I have no clue what it is but if it is a cold then your puppy will be fine.

I'm pretty sure your pup will survive until Monday for the checkup.
If there is an emergency the vet will probably take a look at it as soon as possible.

Lindsey, it sounds as if the antibiotic is helping. More importantly, I have never heard of an animal manifesting the first signs of distemper and bouncing back this far. That's good news.

Edit: Joy, Distemper is similar to SARS in dogs, as far as seriousness goes.

Hi, my puppy just started the meds she's very active playful eatting good drinking good she seems very normal , except the vet said she could have distemper due to a runny nose with mucas and a cough , I don't know what to thin what do you think , is it just a cold or is it distemper?

Odds are in favor of a cold. The vet has to mention the worst case just so you'll be prepared.

I''m not sure if it's distemper or a cold but hopefully it's just a cold.

Runny nose and coughing is usually kennel cough symptoms.
If she is on antibiotics though it will pass.
Symptoms usually die off in the first week and then are completely gone by 2 weeks.
