    Is mortgage (life) protection mandotry?
Hi, my wife and I are in the process of remortgaging, (€40 K over 15 years). We have been accepted by the bank but were refused Life Cover, due to both of us being Hepatitas C positive. Now that we cannot get mortgage protection the Bank are delaying. We live in Ireland and I was told by our solicitor that if we are over 50years old we don't require mortgage protection. The bank say that as it is the 'primary home' we do need it. Help please.

In the US the lender can not mandate that you take life insurance to insure the mortgage debt. You should check with your local government representative. I'm sure that the banks have a government regulatory committee that could answer your question. It sounds like your being discriminated because of your medical history. Check with your local government if you are purchasing outside the US.
