Wild bird

A couple of days ago I found a baby bird being chased by a cat in the garden it was really late at night so obviously the baby bird had fell out of a nest so I decided to take it in for the night. I started noticing that the bird was not walking properly but his feet and legs seemed OK and he would grip your hand fine if you put him on your finger. He has got some feathers but is still growing. Can anyone help as too what I can do?

I would take him to a vet to find out but there is no vets close enough && it would be very hard for me to get to a vet. :confused::confused:

Could you post a photo of the bird,maybe someone would be able to help you more on taking care of the bird if we learn what type of bird it is.

There is a picture of the bird it is on my mates account. The bird has started to walk on it a bit but is still limping I think maybe he has broken his toe or twisted it funny he dusnt really seem in any pain and is still eating etc normally. X

Are you going to keep this bird, or take care of it until it can fly?
If your going to take care of this bird it probably won't have a chance in the wild because birds learn from their mothers and since your taking care of it it'll consider you as it's mother.

It'll get use to getting it's food without having to do anything and it won't be able to hunt.
After awhile you won't be able to let it go because it'll die in the wild.

Are you planning to get it a proper cage?
Once the bird gets bigger it'll need a cage.

In the picture the bird is in a bucket.
You can't keep it in a bucket forever.

What are you feeding it right now?
I would go on some of the sights shazamataz offered.

Actually, I disagree.

My Uncle finds baby birds abandoned in his yard all the time. He's rasied dozens of them then released them and they're fine. They actually come back to visit. :)

The picture is hard to decipher, it looks like a robin to me, but until the feathers grow in it's hard to say.

What are you feeding it? How often are you handling it? Where are you keeping it?

Am feeding it worms && seeds etc. At the moment it stays in quite big box with tissue etc to keep it warm.

I was planning to wait til it can fly then let it go but have been told my quite alot of people that it will be too tame to let go in the wild. so im not sure what to doo.

Are there any pet stores nearby?

Is the bird eating the food your giving it?

Birds do learn from their parents, but you'd be surprised how much of it is instinct.

Keeping the bird shouldn't even be considered, it's a wild animal. Also, in most states, you need a permit to even raise a wild bird.

In some states they have some kind of wild bird station that takes care of wild birds and release them to the wild when they are old enough. I am very fourtunate to live near Wild Life Images and in most cases they will come get the bird for you if you don't have transportation. Call your forestry department they should be able to tell you who to contact to take care of the bird.

Yeah the bird is eating sleeping etc fine. Seemed a bit more lively today aswell and was walking a bit more on its leg but is still not walking totally normal.

Im not at all planning to keep the bird. Does anyone kno what i can do about its leg? Im 99% sure its not broken i think its just been twisted funny or his fell on it. He dont seem in alot of pain and he does always try and walk on it and still grips your finger if you put it under his foot. Anyone got any info?

Just make sure the bird isn't depending on you for food so you can release it back into the wild when it's bigger.

I think the bird will be fine.

London. But the closest vet is like 2 hours away from me so im not sure what to do. What can i do to make sure its not depending on me for food? dont think it can eat on its own yet. (:

Once the bird can walk properly tie some food to a string (make sure the bird can get the food) and swing the string around.

Anyway, that's just an idea I came up with.
