    Hot water heater noise
When placed on hot water, my kitchen sink starts spitting out the hot water, starting and stopping, like there is air in the line. It is very loud and an even louder noise comes from the water heater. The weird thing is this only happens in the kitchen sink - not the bathroom fixtures, not the dishwasher or washing machine... just the kitchen sink. Anyone know why and how much it will take to fix that? Thanks in advance!

Betcha your heater's a gas one. Do I win my bet? If it's a gas hot water heater I have a cure. Let me know. Tom

It's electric, I am in south Florida.
I think the best way to describe it is a thumping sound. I let the water run for 20 minutes one time, hoping it would clear up.
No luck. Time for a stupid question, what's the aerator?

That thing on the end of the spout. Could also be loose washer in hot water stop valve. Close valve then reopen but only reopen about half way. See if thumping goes away (temporarly).

Greetings from Sarasota, Where in South Florida do you live? Follow HKStrouds instruction and let us know if it makes a difference.
This "thumping", is it a loud deep sound or more like a rattle? Does it occur when the water's not running? Does the noise come from the heater itself or the pipes? How high are the thermostats set at? Does it happen no matter what hot water faucet's being used? Let's have all the details. Regards, Tom

Where in South Florida do you live?
    Coral Springs (Ft. Lauderdale area)
This "thumping", is it a loud deep sound or more like a rattle?
    LOUD and DEEP
Does it occur when the water's not running?
Only when the hot water is running
Does the noise come from the heater itself or the pipes?
Comes from both under the sink and the heater
How high are the thermostats set at?
Not sure, but I always complain I want it hotter! :)
Does it happen no matter what hot water faucet's being used?
ONLY the kitchen sink, no where else.

I plan to work on the aerator tomorrow. Thanks for the advice and assistance!

Thumping equals vibration and vibration's something you can feel. Open the kitchen faucet and start the noise. Now see if you can feel where the vibration's the strongest. Do you feel it more at the heater pipes then the faucet? Let me know, Tom
