I hard wired my ceiling fan into the electrical outlet in the ceiling. I can not change the speed. It runs on high. Is there any way to make it run on low without taking it down and rewiring the remote back into it? The remote was not working is why I took it out and hard wired it to the outlet.

Definitely consult an electrician first... but, I have seen people wire a dimmer switch to a ceiling fan to control the speed. Always buy a ceiling fan that has both manual controls. Remotes are great until they break...

Typically, although not always there is a dual capacitor which one, the other or both in parallel are selected. Both in parallel is the highest speed. These caps can be in the remote in the fan.

Another way is to select a winding.

The motors are of a PSC (Permanent Split Capacitor) motor, so they have one cap to shift the phase. These caps are AC rated.

There are dimmers especially designed for ceiling fans.

You can add a wall control or a remote, but if the fan does not have pullchains there is no way to control the speed from the fan itself.
