    Pet issues
My ex and I are going through a divorce. I moved out of our mutual home while he was in jail for a few months. We have been separated nearly 3 years. I moved out because he was being released on house arrest 4 months prior to his release date. I moved out of the county to stay with friends. I own 2 dogs, who have been chipped and in my name. The dogs are at the house with him and our son. He is now telling me unless I give him ownership of the dogs, he will take them to the SPCA and put them up for adoption. I called the county sheriff's office and was told, the dogs are property, he can do what he wants. My only option would be to take him to civil court. Is there anything I can do if I did sign over ownership, to legally get them back? I know he will not just hand them over to me. I live in Florida if this helps.

    Thanks in advance

You can divide them like any property in a divorce settlement, and really, that's about it.

I know they are living breathing creatures that you love, but as far as the law is concerned, they might as well be a couch.
