I have a craftsman lawn mower about 9 years old with 917.270514 model no. after starting it and when I attempt to engage the mower deck lever to begin mowing it shuts off. Why is it doing this and can I fix it?

Bad deck switch is most probable. Seat switch could do it but it would also cut off when you let out the clutch.
