    Divorce before green card interview
    Hello

I v been married for 8 months. I filed a month ago for residency base on the fact that I am married to US citizen. I have not yet received my green card but I have to divorce my husband because it abused me verbally and physically and also he does not work and I provide everything in the house. It got to a point where I can't take it anymore I am going to get a divorce but before I would like to know if there is anything I could do concerning my case that is pending at the immigration. I have received my working permit so far I don't want to live in this country illegally what to do

If you get divorced before the first interview, your case will be denied.

Depending on the level of abuse, you may qualify as a self-petitioner under VAWA. Find an experienced immigration attorney that knows a good psychologist to do the assessement. Good luck.
