I've change out the points on the pump, but... it'll start for a second then shut off, and it does this continuously without a constant flow of water or pressure. I've read enough of your posts to think of checking the air intake when I get home. The hose in the water is barked over with corrosion (So I'll be cleaning that as well). AS YOU CAN TELL... lol I'm not a plumber, but I'd like to have the satisfaction of fixing this minor detail myself.

Can you tell me anything from A to Z that would possibly get the pump working again? Also, I can't seem to locate the valve where I need to prime the pump...

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

The first thing I would check is the pressure gage. When the pump shuts off does the gage drop? If so inspect the check valve to see it it's faulty. If it has failed then the system won't hold pressure and the pump will cycle on and off.
The next thing I would check is the bladder tank. Pop the snifter valve on top of the tank. If water comes out then the bladder's ruptured and must be replaced> After you've checked those get back to me. Regards, Tom

I will Tom, I've had to work more hours than I can complain about (since I do enjoy my job)... There's no pressure gauge on the pump, just the unit/points/hose/and a funny looking thing on the end of the hose that hangs in the water... lol I've been looking to prime the pump, but the only spot I can see to try to use is on the lower right side at about 4 o'clock-------- any tips? I'm gettin' awfully tired of cold showers for no reason LOL

Check th air pressure in the water tank if the tank is bladderless turn off pump and fill tank with air then turn on oump... if you have a tank with a bladder ckeck air pressure
If you get water out the air valve replace tank if dry turn off pump turn on cold water at a sink when water stops put in air 2 psi below cut in pressure for water switch,, turn pump back on when all air is out of pipes close sink valve does this fix the system

I don'tthink it's the bladder tank although it's a good idea to check it.
The reason that I don't finger the pressure tank is that he says," it'll start for a second then shut off, and it does this continuously without a constant flow of water or pressure."
If it were the bladder tank the pump would kick on every time you drew a glass of water. But that's not the case here. The pump cycles on and off by itself with no draw on the system.
A faulty check valve would let the pump get up to pressure and shut down.
Then pressure would began to bleed back down the suction line past the faulty check valve lowering the pressure and the control would energize the pump causing it to cycle. That's the reason I opt for the check valve.

I bought a new pump.. still no water lol So I went an bought a foot valve, and I'll try installing that Thursday. Do either of you have any tips on changing that out?

I also need to adjust the air in the tank to I believe 20lbs? I jumped ahead of myself and filled it full before I bought the new pump, and discovered later that was a mistake.

I'm new to all of this pump business, I've packed water, and bathed in streams and lakes, caught rain water - had city water for years. BUT... this is my first pump project, and as you can tell - I'm up to my ears in the blues.

I do thank you guys for taking the time to answer though, it is greatly appreciated.
