    I'm not sure I've ever heard of the "rules of a rectangle." These are some things that I know about rectangles:

    Opposite sides have equal length.
    Opposite sides are parallel to each other.
    Adjacent sides are perpendicular.
    All inside angles are 90 degrees.
    Diagonals are equal.
    The diagonal is related to the lengths of the side by the Pythagorean theorem.
