Even if your not ready to have sex should you be on birth control?
I'm a teenager and even though I'm not in a serious relationship and I know that I don't want to have sex (I know I'm not ready) should I still be on birth control? I've heard of other uses for it and all the different kinds like the pill, patch, ring, and injections but I'm still not sure. My period isn't very regular because of my small size but I don't know if I should or wait until I feel like I'm ready. Got any suggestions?

    Thanks

Younger people, even those not sexually active, can be put on the "pill" to regulate their period, if its very irregular or extremely painful.

You need to discuss this with your doctor as to whether its appropriate for your health.

Personally I wouldn't go with it at this stage. Why put the hormones in your body if there is no medical purpose and there are known risks?

As ScottGem mentioned, the pill is sometimes used to help with period issues, but not necessarily just being a bit irregular. (unless you were at a point of wanting to have a child) Most often, when used for menstrual irregularities, it is to help with excessive bleeding and/or discomfort.

It is not uncommon for periods to still be irregular in your teens and then become more regular on their own as you get a bit older.
