New Hunter Ceiling Fan connecting with Harbor Breeze Remote
Ok. Here is my situation. I have a new hunter ceiling fan. The box in the wall has a white, black, and red wire. I have attached the two green ground wires. The remote receiver has ac black and ac white on one side and white, black and blue on the other side. The fan has white, black and black/white striped. It is a pull chain fan and there is only one outlet on the wall that controls the fan. How do I connect these? Thanks.

Is there a seconf switch in this room that also controls the old ceiling fixture? That red wire could be a traveler for a 3 way switch. Was it attached to the old switch?

Here is what I know. There was no ceiling fan here when I moved in but the box was there. The switch I believe it goes to is on the wall closest to the switch. There are 3 switches there but 2 go to something else. There is potentially a single switch in the back of the room that could also go the fan, but I don't think so since it is so far away.

We must figure out what that red wire does. Was it connected to the old switch along with the other two wires?

You mean the black and white wires in the box? Do I take the switch plate off the wall to see what wires go where in there? The red wire comes out of the electrical box that was there with the white and black wire. I'm sorry I just not sure I understand where I am supposed to be looking to figure out what the red wire does. Thanks for your patience as I am a novice for sure.

Yes, remove the cover to the switch and then the screws at the top and bottom of the switch. Probably should kill the power at the panel for this switch. Now pull out the switch and tell me what color wires are attached to the switch.

OK... on the back wall... the further away switch panel has two red wires and a black wire. The front switch panel (closer) has two wires that both look like black wires... hard to tell a difference but seem to be too dark to be classified as gray.

    Connect:

    Fan black to receiver black
    Fan striped to receiver blue
    Fan white to receiver white

Receiver AC white to ceiling white
Receiver AC black to ceiling black OR red, try both, one will work.

It isn't a wall switch remote, is it?
