    I need to convince someone.
This is making my blood boil.

An old 'friend' of mine on Facebook just made this status message: " Can't Wait To Get A Male PUg >>> Then i Will Be Making MOney Can't Wait"
    :mad::mad::mad::mad:

Yeah. I'm trying to talk her out of it, but it isn't working. "I know what i an doing i have done this befor i have had dogs all my life and i dont need someone telling me wat i all really know but thanks for you 411" she says.

    UGH.

I told her about an experience I JUST had at my clinic. This lady decided to breed her PUGS to make money. We highly recommended doing at least x-rays because she was going to take deposits on puppies. She wanted to save money, so no x-ray. She took four separate deposits for puppies, 100 bucks each.

Then a few weeks later.. call came in at 3 in the morning. Emergency c-section. The mother dog had one huge puppy, that was it. And it didn't survive.

Cost of the emergency fee+surgery+aftercare because the mom was sick? About $3,500. All of which she had to pay up front because she was a shady client (who this girl I know is too).

Then she had to pay those people their deposits back. So in the end, this lady who was planning on making money with these puppies, was out $4,000, and hadn't made a cent.

But my friend is one of those 'it won't happen to me' kind of people. And it probably won't. Watch. Things will go fine and she'll make money on it. But its just morally WRONG. When I was in school we had duties at the humane society, and one of those was going into a room, and choosing five animals out of said room that needed to be killed that day. It got really hard when we went into a room of ten litters of 7-10 week old puppies, and had to choose which litter died.

    Ugh.

How tragic for the puppies that will be born in this operation your friend plans on doing to make money.

I agree with you that it is very, very low to indiscriminately breed dogs when you don't know what you're doing.

I guess it is buyer beware, and hopefully people will ask a few simple questions about the puppies.

In the meanwhile, I don't know what you can do to stop her, other than tell her what you have said here, if you haven't already.

    How awful.

One suggestion would be to get her to jump on this site and ask a question about her dog.
Everyone would certainly tell her about how wrong she is, and I know for sure that me, you and Alty would give her a piece of our mind!!

You could suggest some videos on YouTube for her to watch about backyard breeders but it sounds like her mind is made up :(

People like that really make me sick.

Dogs should never be bred to make money it's all about the quality of the parents, and like you said, a litter can quite often end up costing you more than you make off the puppies!

Any small breed of dog is more prone to complications. I can imagine Pugs would regularly need c-sections and I know this sounds awful but I hope this ladies pug needs one.
It might give her a kick in the pants when it ends up costing her money.

That's the general attitude, It won't happen to me or its not my fault, I'm not contributing to the problem everyone else is.

The sad truth is that there is probably nothing short of her having a life or death crisis with her dog for the point to be made, if that even does. There are some people out there I'm sure that would go through a crisis and then do it again thinking well it certainly won't happen twice and I need to make up for last time's loss...

I personally try to never, ever say "it won't happen to me" with anything because as soon as you start in that mindset you are setting yourself up for whatever it is to happen. No one out there goes into things like breeding dogs thinking my dog will die, it just happens.
