Hasan buys two kinds of cloth materials for school uniforms, shirt material that costs him Rs.50 per metre and trouser material that costs him Rs.90 per metre. For every 2 metres of the trouser he buys 3 metres of the shirt material. He sells the materials at 12% and 10% profit respectively. His total sale is Rs.36660.How much trouser material did he buy?

The key is to accurately express the parameters you are given as equations.

    We'll define the following variables:

S = shirt material purchased (meters)
T = trouser material purchased (meters)

Since he purchases 3 meters of shirt material material for every 2 meters of trowser material, we can write:

    (equation 1)

This is the more difficult equation. The total sale is the unit cost of the material times the cost of that material. You then have to figure in the profit. Profit on the Trouser material is 12%; profit on the shirt material is 10%

    (equation 2)

You now have two independent equations and two unknowns that you should be able to solve.
