Wouldn't that get rid of my Yahoo account and addresses? I don't want to get rid of Yahoo, just the instant messenger.

For applications that you dragged and dropped into your applications folder, drag the application into the trash.

Then select the finder and click on its menu at the very top right. Select "Secure Empty Trash" and click on 'OK'. What "Secure Empty Trash" does is finds all traces of the files in your trash and deletes them forever (therefore, uninstalling it for good).

If the application has an uninstaller use it to uninstall the applicaton.

Thanks for your help but I unchecked one thing on Yahoo a couple of days ago and it seems to have finally solved the problem. It took a couple of days for things to go away.
