Perhaps the motor is burnt out.

Does it fill with water, and then just sit there full until you manually drain it, or does it drain itself when it normally would, without any washing.
Does the machine buzz, hum, vibrate, or anything?

Hi, It may also be the wigwag. I'm not pulling your leg. The first time I was told this I was skeptical. But, really, look it up. I replaced the wigwag and it worked fine after that. It may also be the water fill sensor as someone else mentioned.

I'm not sure what a wigwag is, so if this IS a wigwag, I'm sorry for repeating info.

But you know that little button thing, that is pushed down when the lid goes down? If that is stuck, then the washer won't do anything past filling. Because the lid needs to be closed to continue, and if the little button isn't down, then the washer thinks the lid is still open.

    Did that make sense/

It is not a wig wag if it is 3 years old. A wig wag is used pre 1990. Check your lid switch or the lid switch strike.
