I have a pet chihuahua who I have had for 5 years. About 6 months ago my boyfriend moved in our home, and about 2 months ago we adopted a 6 month old golden retriever puppy. Both the chihuahua and the lab get along great with other dogs, but can't seem to get along together. They are also both neutered. It has become a household frustration, and is putting a strain on my relationship with my boyfriend. Any advice would be great.

What are they doing that you think they are not getting along?

My Chihuahua growls and bares his teeth every time the other dog walks by. This usually excites the lab, and he tries to play but it turns into a fight, bad enough to draw blood for both of them sometimes. The Chihuahua also seems to be just depressed now, and loves to leave the house when I go to my mom and dads. But both of them get along with my dads dogs and the are a german shepard and a boxer/pitbull mix. I know my chihuahua is protective over me, so I don't know if he is trying to protect me or what. I would just like them to learn to get along, and also help my boyfriend get along with my chihuahua
