Tiling an existing shower pan
I have a plastic shower pan that has raised fiberglass/plastic lines about 1/2" wide for extra traction running towards the drain in a star pattern. This is the type of plastic pan that builders will put in and that you can buy a replacement at Home Deopt for around $150. We want to tile the shower pan (the walls are already tiled on 3 sides and has a glass door) and a home depot employee said that you can do it no problem. I asked if I needed to put a hardiboard down first and they said you can or you can put the thinset right on top of the plastic/fiberglass shower pan and then lay your tiles. Has anyone done this before? Can this be done? Any tips/suggestions/guidance would be greatly appreciated.
