    Revenge of The Sith argument.
HELP!!! Settle an argument for me. My friend and I are bickering back and forth about a scene in the movie Star Wars Episode III: Revenge of the Sith.

It is the scene where Mace Windu and Supreme Chancellor Palpatine (aka Darth Siddeous, aka The Emperor,) are fighting. You remember the scene. Mace and Palpatine are fighting, Mace seems to best Palpatine and gets him on the floor with a lightsaber at his neck. Palpatine shoots force lightning at Mace. Mace blocks it and deflects a little back onto Palpatine, burning his face. Palpatine begs for mercy, Anakin then sides with Palpatine and hurts Mace, allowing Palpatine to kill him.

My friend says that Mace is more powerful than Palpatine and easily beat him. And if it weren't for Anakin's betrayal, Mace would have won that fight. The end.

I say however, that Palpatine was faking. He was using that fight to lure Anakin to the darkside. Mace has Palpatine on the floor, Palpatine shoots force lightning but it is deflected by Mace. Palpatine beggs Anakin for help, saying "Help me Anakin, I'm too weak."

Weak? How? When Anakin hurts Mace, suddenly Palpatine has uber strength and mega zaps Mace out the window? Where was the weakness? My theory is that Palpatine was totally faking that whole fight just to get Anakin to his side. Mace could NOT have actually beaten him at all. Palpatine was one of the most powerful Siths alive at the time. Remember, he mopped the floor with Yoda later on in the film.

Okay, boys and girls, I value your opinions. Go for it.

The result is the same, is it not?

Somewhere along the way do you remember it is done for a story line and is Hollywood?

The theory is that the good side is always stronger than the dark side, but that it took the both of them on the dark side to overpower good.

    The Darkside is devious.
I'm inclined to agree with the fakery angle here used by Palpatine to seal Anakin's passage to the Darkside.
After all the whole story he was attempting to weave was the mutiny of the Jedi against the Republic.
What better way to secure the services of arguably the most powerful Jedi ever, then first hand proof that what he had been told was indeed "true".

Up until this point Anakin didn't know that Palpatin was indeed a Sith Lord, but merely the Supreme Chancellor of the Republic.

The Darkside will always prevail against the Light due to their willingness to use any and all means required to win. They are completely devoid of moral fibre and as such, unbeatable in a fair fight.

I have to disagree with you on one point. Anakin DID know about Palpatine when the fight takes place. Remember, (and I just re-watched it,) Anakin guesses Palpatine is the Sith Lord and draws his lightsaber, but then changes his mind and instead, LATER, he tells Mace. Mace then shows up with his Jedi posse to take down Palpatine. Why would Mace show up with so many Jedi for one weak old man Senator? Mace was scared of The Sith Lord.

Fake, fake, fake, fake. Palpatine was faking to get Anakin to help him, thus turning to the dark side. And yes, Anakin did already know that Palpatine was the Sith Lord, he was the one who told Mace.
