    About my period.
My period has done weird things. I was on birth control for about 5 years, then when I went off it, it took a YEAR for it to come back, and when it did, it was irregular (it'd start again two weeks after it finished, it'd take two months to come back).

Anyway. I believe the root to the irregularity was my hypothyroidism, which is being treated.

Let's cut to the chase. I have a prescription for birth control, that I'm waiting to start when my period decides to grace me with it's presence.
My issue is I have my significant other coming to visit for a week August 1st, and I'd love to be on birth control at time, but I understand it takes time for the pill to take effect. I'd also like to not be on my period.

    So my questions:
How long does it take for birth control to be effective?
Is it safe for me to start taking birth control without my period, in order to ensure I don't get my period during the first week of August?

It takes 14 days for the pill to be considered 'safe' after starting a coarse.

I have never started taking my tablets after I have had a period and I had no problems (recently switched to implanon)
It just made that cycle longer by however early I started taking the pills.

However, the problem there is that it might not take the 14 days to be effective it may take longer.
I would be using a condom as well.

Good luck and have fun ;)

I will be. I'm more concerned about using the pill to delay my period to ensure it doesn't happen that week.

When I was taking the pill and I did not want a period at a certain time I always skipped the non-active tablets.
I never had an unwanted period.

I know everyone is different though so hopefully you get some more opinions, especially from J_9.
From my experince you should be period free though.

I remember doing that when I was on the pill before, I just wasn't sure if it would work, since unless my period comes within the next week, I'll be starting my pills without my period having started.
