    About drinking alcohol
My husband and I were going to go out tonight. As a date night. It might sound silly to some, but we work all day and often don't have a lot of time together. So we thought we would go to a club and hang out with some friends and just relax

My question is, I haven't been drinkign in A LONG time. I mean YEARS. Back in high school (yes I know, bad to drink under 21 but I did it anyway :P ) and back then I could really pack it away without really feeling much of anything.

But from what I hear, if you haven't been drinking in a while, your 'threshold' tends to go down.

Is this true? I don't want to go to the club and just start packing away the shots if its going to affect me diffrently. Should I start slow?

First make sure you eat a good meal before going because it is a fact that when you drink on an empty stomach the alcohol hits you harder and faster.

Also stick to one or two types of drinks. I heard that switching to a lot of different ones some combinations will get you drunk faster.

I am not a drinker but I like going to the bar to hear a band or shoot some pool occasionally so I get a drink and make it last.

Sorry its been so long. I did eat before going and thank you for that suggestion. I didn't drink as much as I assumed I would. My sister made it sound like a huge drinking party lol. All we did was hang out in the pool and drink daquris. Hehe

Everyone is different, so it's hard to say, but I will give you this advice. Eat a full meal beforehand. And take your headache medicine and a tall glass of Gatoraid/water BEFORE you go to bed at the end of the night. This will help alleviate the hangover. And trust me, taking it in the morning is not nearly as effective.

I thought you weren't supposed to take medication before/during/after drinking?

Just wanted to point out - do NOT take tylenol with alcohol or as a hangover cure, ever.

It's bad for your liver folks. People don't realize it, but Tylenol is incredibly hepatoxic - a handful would kill you. Combining it with alcohol could shrink that number, and doing it on a regular basis could cause serious liver damage.

Most headache or pain relief pills have some amount of tylenol in them, excedrin, etc. Look at the ingredient list - acetaminophen, paracetamol, APAP - these are all generic names for tylenol, if it's on the list, don't use it as hangover meds. Yes, even the next morning it's still not a good idea.

Sorry, just wanted to point that out in response to the bit about take your hangover medication before bed.

As far as tolerance goes, if you drink a lot your tolerance will go up, if you don't it'll fall. There's a certain baseline that you won't go below though, do to your weight and metabolism etc. Just go very slowly at it, don't want to go from vertical to horizontal in under an hour :)
