In connecting a new hot water cylinder the male coupling connector to the tank for the cold water inlet pipe has a small leak - is this simply due to insufficient PTFE tape or should there be a gasket for the male coupler (it has a small flange to match the outer face of the cylinder internal thread connection). The leak is from the flange/tank thread area.

No its like the attached picture but with compression fitting to the pipework rather than push fitting. The screw thread to the tank

Again no it is like my picture the problem is a small leak from the coupler/tank join possibly due either to me not applying enough ptfe tape or because there should be a gasket. To clarify I am fitting a new cylinder and the cold water inlet connection has a small leak

If so, remove it and reapply teflon tape... Apply 6-8 wraps of teflon tape and reinstall... should fix this. No gaskets here.

After this fitting it connects to copper pipe... right?

No it is much closer to my picture posted yesterday and yes it does fit to copper pipe. But thanks for the info I only used 3 wraps so it looks like you've answered my question. Thanks
