I get horrible migrains and dizzy spells so I always have to resort to taking a painkiller. Whether it be percs,oxys,methadone,codeine I get even sicker. I get naseous sometime vomit. And to top it off I get itchy all over and get a rash after wards =[

The itchiness happens because you may be allergic to these painkillers.

Man that sucks.. I guess I have to always suffer in pain!

J_9, please correct me if I am wrong, but I THINK all the meds you listed, are Acetaminophen based painkillers (or tyenol based) could you have an allergy to tyenol? Maybe you could try some motrin (ibuprofin)

Painkillers aren't always needed for migraine headaches. There are other meds that work better. Please see your doctor for proper diagnosis and treatment.

Sorry, no they are not. Methodone is not at all like tylenol. Some may have acetaminophen in them, but are not necessarily acetaminophen. Many people are allergic to codeine for instance, and itchiness is a reaction. Whenever, as a nurse, I am told my patient gets "itchy" from a medication we immediately put them on the allergy list.

I don't have insurance for a doctor anymore. Do you know of any that are good for headaches?

The only ones I know of are by prescription. BTW, how are you getting half the meds you list without a doctor's prescription?

Lovelylilreject, when I get migranes in the summer if I don't have my maxalt mlt's I use asprin. It helps better than anything (aside from my maxalt prescription)

How old are you? Its possible she is giving you TOO much of the medication. She shouldn't be giving you medication that is not prescribed to you. For this very reason

I'd look into figuring out someway to get back to seeing a dr. there's a lot of other ways to treat migraines. And even ways to prevent it. A dr would be able to help you learn he best ways to deal with your migraines so that you don't end up on the floor crying every time.

Your mom should not be giving you narcotic pain reliever unless YOUR doctor prescribed them to you. You can try over the counter excedrin migraine. They help me. But your mom must follow dosing instruction.

Your MOMMY gives them to you and you are 19? These are prescription meds that, if given to someone other than prescribed to, is a federal offense.

If you keep getting meds from your mom (which is NOT right or legal), try taking Benadryl or Zyrtec. They are both over the counter meds that combat allergies and usually work in cases like yours.

From what you describe, it sounds like you have very mild allergies.

Don't get me wrong, I am NOT advocating that you keep getting prescription meds from ANYONE but your own doctor, but just in case you do, this is an idea you can try.

Migraines can be caused by taking too much narcotic pain medicine. It's called a "rebound" headache.

Nausea and vomiting are the most common of all side effects of taking narcotic meds.

The best advice is to NOT DO IT AT ALL unless a doctor prescribes it to you personally! If a doctor prescribes it to you, he can give you a medicine that can alleviate the nausea and vomiting. All you have to do is ask. Phenegran is one that comes to mind, I've taken it and it worked for me. Here is a link to a list of other such drugs:

Please, please get a prescription. You are putting yourself in great danger by not being monitored by a doctor. This could lead to addiction and liver disease, even liver failure.
