I cashed in my retirement benefits (vested) 6 years ago and when attempting to re-employ with the hospital was told that I was ineligible for rehire due to federal laws and that I had cashed in my retirement. Is there any way around this so I can be rehired?

I'd go back to see a supervisor. I don't believe there are any laws preventing you from going back to work. I think they're LYING to you.

Maybe the HR rep does not know what to do. Most people do not take the retirement and go back to the same place but go someplace else to work if they still want to work.

I am not a lawyer but if you feel this is age discrimination, I would consult an attorney.
