I need to know about landlord responsibilities. I recently moved into a crap apartment cause our income has dropped, due to these times. Anyway the people that lived upstairs moved out and left a cat, the cat sprayed and peed on my ceiling where my closet is and I had ALL my sheets and comforters and computer stuff in this closet that SMELLS like cat piss. Now the fix it man was upstairs and had water running which ran in this same closet. So all together now I have WET SMELLY MESSED UP STUFF. Is the landlord responsible for the damages to my stuff?:mad:

If the damage was not your fault, yes, the landlord is responsible for your damages.

I don't completely understand the situation with the cat - the cat was gone before you got there OR the cat "lived with you" for a period?

Do you have renter's insurance to cover your personal belongings? If it's water damage that's definitely covered. But if the landlord (or someone acting under his authority) caused the damage, then he is responsible for any damages you suffered due to his negligence.

I'm confused on the situation with the cat also. I don't see how the landlord would be responsible for that since it's not his cat.

The cat was left and locked in the upstairs apartment. The cat was seen in the through the window and it was heard. He sprayed and peed between my ceiling and the upstairs floor.

The cat was left by the previous tentant upstairs and it was locked in. it sprayed and peed between my ceiling and the upstairs floor

Then you need to sue the previous tenant, unless you can prove the landlord knew the cat was there and didn't have it removed.
